Google’s AI Cybersecurity Leap: Big Sleep Uncovers Major Vulnerability

Google is embracing this forward-thinking approach by integrating advanced AI-driven security tools into its global infrastructure, with a focus on safeguarding data centers and critical systems.

At the heart of this effort is Big Sleep, Google’s AI-powered security agent that recently uncovered a serious vulnerability in SQLite, one of the world’s most widely used embedded database engines. The flaw, labeled CVE-2025-6965, had gone unnoticed by traditional scanning methods.

Big Sleep’s discovery represents a breakthrough in how AI can assist security teams by proactively finding hidden threats.

Google plans to highlight these advancements at leading cybersecurity conferences, such as Black Hat USA and DEF CON 33, where it will showcase how AI is transforming digital defense. Alongside Big Sleep, Google is rolling out updates to Timesketch, its open-source forensics tool, now enhanced with Sec-Gemini. This AI system accelerates incident analysis by sorting through massive log data in real time.

These innovations are part of a larger shift toward AI-enhanced cybersecurity, where algorithms play an active role in scanning for software bugs, insider threats, and suspicious activity, far beyond the capabilities of traditional monitoring tools.

By combining AI threat detection with collaborative industry efforts, such as contributing to the Coalition for Secure AI, Google aims to raise the global cybersecurity standard. As cyber threats become more complex, tools like Big Sleep are setting the stage for smarter, faster, and more reliable defense strategies, potentially reshaping how the tech industry handles security in the AI era.
